Stealth
With the addition of ninjitsu, the stealth skill has become quite a bit more useful. Stealth is basically the ability to walk (not run) while hidden. To use stealth, you must first be hidden by some means, such as the hiding skill or a smoke bomb. Once you are hidden, take a step while not in run mode, and you will attempt to walk stealthily. Your hiding skill must be at least 30 for this to work.

The chances of successfully taking a stealth step are dependent on several things. First is your skill level; the lower your skill level, the lower your chances of being able to stealth.

Second is your armor; the less you are wearing, the better. If you are wearing a full suit of plate armor, you probably won't be able to stealth at all. Wearing mage armor is better, leather armor even better still, and wearing nothing at all is best. The higher your skill level, the more armor you can potentially wear while in stealth.

Third is the people around. Even if nobody is using the detecting hidden skill, you can still be detected as you walk stealthily; you can be passively detected each time you take a step. If a person has high skill in detecting hidden, they have an even higher chance of passively detecting you. The closer you are to people, and the more people there are, the more likely it is that you will be detected.

Once you have high stealth skill, there are many things you will be able to do:

Ninjitsu abilities: Several ninjitsu abilities require that you be in stealth mode before they can be activated. They are: Backstab, Surprise Attack, and Shadow Jump.

Shadow Strike: This weapon ability is useful in defense as it hides you when your weapon hits, and cannot be executed unless you have high stealth skill.

To train stealth, remove all your armor, hide yourself somehow, and then activate the stealth skill from the skill list. In normal use you don't need to activate the skill manually, but for training you want to activate it as much as possible to make it more difficult and thus raise the skill faster.

If you successfully remain hidden, wait ten seconds and then activate the stealth skill again. If you fail and become visible, hide yourself again and start over.

As your skill increases, you will need to start wearing more armor in order to continue training. Start by adding pieces of leather armor, then add studded leather, and then metal armor.
