Recipes
Some items cannot be crafted until after you have learned the recipe for it. When you acquire a recipe scroll, double-click it to read it. A recipe scroll can only be used by one character, and disappears once it is read.
The simplest recipes are acquired by the elves in Heartwood or Sanctuary. When you fulfill their requests (in the form of quests) you have a reasonable chance of receiving a recipe scroll as a reward.
Rare recipes, for artifacts and the like, will not be given to you as rewards for the simple quests. They are rewarded for more challenging tasks that go beyond crafting simple items.
