Inscription
There are several uses for inscription. The primary one is to craft magic spell scrolls. Making scrolls costs mana and consumes reagents and blank scrolls. In addition for each scroll you want to make, you need to have the spell already in your spellbook. A scribe's pen is necessary to make spell scrolls.
On ABCUO, the main use for spell scrolls is to put them in a spellbook and to sell full spellbooks; there are very few people who cast spells directly from scrolls because there is no skill cap. Sometimes players will use energy vortex scrolls for higher success at 100 magery skill, and perhaps players who have limited their magery in order to have high chivalry fc may also have a use for scrolls. Finally, recall scrolls are sometimes used to recharge runebooks.
Many players train inscription solely for combat purposes. At 100 inscription, your spells will do approximately 10% more damage. In addition, the effect of the magic reflection spell is increased. With 100 inscription, if you cast both reactive armor and magic reflection, you receive a bonus of +5 in each elemental resists.
Other uses for inscription are: copying books (use the skill directly from the skill list), or crafting other things such as bulk order books and books of kills.
With a scribe's pen you can also craft spellbooks. There are two types of spellbooks that can be made:
The first type is a normal spellbook that may have magical properties. These spellbooks can hold spells as usual, and when crafted have a random chance of receiving up to three magical properties. The number and quality of the properties depends on your casting skill level for the type of book being crafted (magery, mysticism, or necromancy). If you hold the spellbook in your hand like a weapon, you will receive those magic properties. Typically the most useful property for these spellbooks is the slayer property. When holding a slayer spellbook, most spells do double damage against the respective monster type, except for the harm and mind blast spells.
The second type is an enhanceable spellbook. It cannot be used as a regular spellbook; spell scrolls cannot be dropped in it. However you can hold the spellbook in your hand and receive the magical properties associated with it. When an enhanceable spellbook is crafted, it will have no magical properties. The properties of any piece of jewelry can be applied to the book: double click the enhanceable spellbook, target a jewel, and the jewel will be absorbed into the spellbook. This is a non-reversible process.
Training
To train inscription, perform these actions at each skill level. Lower mana cost armor has no effect, but mana regeneration will help. If possible, maximize mana regeneration by using lich form and summoning a shadow wisp.
