Bulk Order Deeds
Basics
The basics of bulk order deeds are no different from standard Ultima Online shards. If you are familiar with bulk order deeds already, you should skip ahead to the next section.
Tailor and Blacksmith NPCs will periodically offer you bulk order deeds, or BODs. These are contracts in which the NPC asks you to craft a given number of a particular item, and upon completing the contract you will receive a reward of gold, fame, and an item.
To receive a bulk order, single-click on the NPC and select the "Bulk Order Info" option, then follow the menus from there. If all goes well, a grey or green deed will appear in your backpack. To fill the deed, first craft the items specified. Then double-click the deed, press the button to add items to the deed, then target each of your crafted items in sequence. Once the deed is complete, drop it onto a tailor or blacksmith NPC and receive your reward.
Small bulk orders are orders for a given number of items, for example 10 chainmail coifs. Large bulk orders are orders that request several sets of items. To fill a large order, not only do you need to craft the items, but you also need to have bulk order deeds for each of the sets held within. Thus filling a large bulk order can take some time collecting bulk orders, and may even require trading of BODs with other players.
Doing bulk orders can be quite lucrative. The most valuable rewards are runic hammers and sewing kits, which can be used to craft some of the most powerful equipment available. Click on the links to the rewards tables to see what reward corresponds to each bulk order.
After requesting a bulk order, there is a period of time (usually six hours) before an NPC will allow you to receive another bulk order.
Bulk Orders on ABCUO
Doing BODs on ABCUO is slightly different from other shards. The main difference is in automation - on standard shards it is possible to run a script to automate BOD collection. When used in conjunction with tens or even hundreds of mule characters, it's easy to gain a huge equipment advantage over players who choose to play the game rather than let the machine play for them.
To prevent automation, NPCs perform a simple check. Before offering you a bulk order, you'll be asked to identify a simple item. If you answer correctly you will be offered a bulk order; if not, your request will be denied as you are judged to be lacking in knowledge of the craft.
When a completed BOD is turned in, you will be eligible to receive a new bulk order immediately; the six hour timer is reset. However this only occurs if the bulk order you turned in was either the last tailor or smith BOD that you received. Also the BOD must never have been placed in a bulk order book.
In general, the quality of bulk orders is improved significantly. At 100 skill level, BOD quality is improved about 75% compared to standard.
The benefit from having higher skill levels (over 100) is quite significant. At 120 skill level, you will see quality improved about 30% for tailor BODs and 50% for blacksmithy BODs.
Each character has a BOD debt that's tracked by the system. This is the number of BODs you've collected minus the number of BODs you've completed and turned in. A BOD debt under 100 has no effect, however once your debt goes over 100, the tailor and blacksmith NPCs begin regarding you as a liability and view you as having reduced skills (though when actually crafting, your skill is unchanged). You can recognize when you have a high debt by the color of the text shown in the BOD query window as shown above. When the text is white you are not penalized; if your BOD debt is over 100, the text will appear yellow; orange when you owe over 200; and red when you owe over 300.
To reduce your BOD debt, it helps to simply decline BODs. In addition, when you decline a BOD rather than accepting it, your wait time is only 4 hours for small BODS and 1 hour for large BODs (normally it's 6 hours for both). To receive this benefit you must click the decline/cancel button; simply closing the gump is not sufficient.
You cannot bribe shopkeepers to try to get a higher level BOD.
