Blacksmithy
The main purpose of blacksmithy is to craft, repair, and enhance metal weapons and armor. On ABCUO, leather armor is at least the equal of metal armor, so blacksmithy is more concentrated on weapons than armor.
When repairing items, you will need a high skill level to avoid failure and the resulting loss of item durability. A highly skilled blacksmith can make repair deeds by using a blacksmith's tool (such as tongs), using the repair option, and targeting a blank scroll.
Weapons that have been poisoned cannot be repaired until the poison has been removed by using up the poison or wiping it off with an oil cloth.
High skill levels not only provide a higher success of crafting and higher chance of crafting exceptional things, but also allows you to work higher level metals. Here are the skill levels required to work the different ingot types:
Dull Copper - 65
Shadow Iron - 70
Copper - 75
Bronze - 80
Golden - 85
Agapite - 90
Verite - 95
Valorite - 99
Items found as loot can be enhanced with colored metal with various results. Armor and shields can be enhanced to increase properties - generally either the luck property or the resistances. Weapons are enhanced to either increase the luck, or to enhance the elemental damages.
Another activity that blacksmiths take part in is bulk orders. NPC blacksmiths offer bulk order deeds to skilled blacksmiths, and pay in items and gold when the deeds are filled. The rewards for bulk orders vary greatly. Some of the better rewards include: powders of fortification, ancient smithy hammers (which raise your blacksmithy skill when holding it), and runic hammers which can be used to craft high-end weapons with magical properties.
No blacksmith can create anything without ingots, and it's good to have friends who are miners, or to be a miner yourself.
Training
What to make at each skill level:
0-45.3: Dagger
45.3-95.3: Short Spear
95.3-100: Wakizashi
100-120: Plate Hiro Sode
When training blacksmithy, it is typical to recycle the things you've made by smelting them.
