New Player Guide - Forming Associations
Communication is a vital part of the game. Here are some of the tools you can use to talk to others:
- Regular speech - If you haven't noticed already, almost anything you type, except for special commands, is shown above your head as speech.
- [tell {name} {message}] - Sends a brief, immediate message to a specific person who is currently online. If the person has spaces in their name, replace the spaces with underscores. For example: tell jean_seberg hello!
- [pm {name} - This brings up a window in which you can send a longer private message to a person. The message goes to their mailbox, so you can send messages to people who are not online and they can read them at their leisure.
- [ch {message} - This sends a message in regional chat, broadcasting it to everyone in the area.
For brief adventures such as helping with a treasure hunt or quest, you may want to form a party. Type "/add" and you'll be prompted to add someone to your party. Type "/accept" if you've been invited to a party, and henceforth you can send messages to everyone in the party using "/" followed by the message. If you forget the commands, you can also single-click on yourself to use some of the party options, or double click the party manifest scroll in your paperdoll to view more party information.
You may meet people you want to form a stronger association with: a guild. Press the "guild" button on your paperdoll to start the process of forming a guild. There are many benefits to being guilded, among them is simply ready access to your friends via guild chat. Type [gc {message} to send a message to everyone in the guild who's currently online.
