New Player Guide - Gathering Wealth
For many of your activites you may have noticed that you need some money to operate. Having a good supply of gold makes life a bit easier.

The first step is to learn to manage your money. The safest place to keep gold (and anything else) is in your bank box. Besides guarding your bank box, bankers provide a few other services when you say the key words:
  • Check : Say "check 10000" and the banker will turn gold into a bank check. Checks are convenient for many purposes such as transferring large amounts to other players. Bank checks are blessed.
  • Withdraw : Takes an amount of gold out of your bank box and drops it into your backpack.
  • Balance: When you say this, the banker will tell you how much gold you have in your bank.

Knowing how to handle your money doesn't help much when you don't have any. Here are some of the typical ways people acquire their riches:

Killing monsters - This is the old fashioned, tried and true way. All manner of creatures seem to have a use for gold, and are easily parted from it with a few whacks on the head.

Crafting - Learning a trade and selling to NPC vendors is not a very effective way of making money. However if you learn the market and figure out what people need, you can sell crafted items to other players, especially if you're using skills that are difficult to train. Some things you might be able to sell: full spellbooks; slayer spellbooks; books of kills and nulk order books; full potion kegs of deadly poison, greater agility, and greater strength; stone furniture; repair deeds. Put your items on a player vendor, or ask people's needs in town.

Harvesting - Just like crafting, selling items to players is the most effective way to make money from harvesting. Common needs: ingots of all colors; leather, especially spined and barbed; regular bones (kill horde minions and zombies for them); boards.

Vendor farming - NPC vendors typically sell things in low quantities. However if you buy out their stock, the quantity they hold in stock will double when they restock in about half an hour. If you keep buying their stock eventually they will carry 999 of each item they sell as long as people keep buying. The reason you would want to do this is because you can make money by reselling things in quantity. Wealthier players will pay higher prices for items in bulk for the convenience of not having to camp the vendors. Typical things that can be sold in bulk: magery reagents, blank scrolls, boards, arrows, crossbow bolts.

Selling loot - If you can learn to identify higher end equipment, and also manage to kill the creatures that have them, you can make a killing by selling the equipment.

Doing quests - Quests can provide rewards of gold, tokens, or items of value.

Taming animals - Animal trainer NPCs will pay you for supplying them with the animals they need. You can train your taming skill at the same time. The higher level rewards can be sold to other players.

Bulk orders - Blacksmith and tailor NPCs provide rewards for filling bulk orders of equipment. Train your skills while you do them. The higher level rewards can be sold to other players.

Champion spawns - Get a group of players together and complete a champion spawn. Grab the loot and the gold; use the power scrolls or sell them to other players.

Keep in mind that wealth is not only counted in gold. Owning a powerful piece of equipment or even a rare decorative item increases your net worth considerably.
