New Player Guide - Death
In your travels it is inevitable that the world will go grey. You probably don't want to get used to it, but death happens to the best of us.
However there is a simple remedy for this. Throughout the world there are benevolent monks known as wandering healers, who resurrect just about any ghost they meet. Players can resurrect other players using magic or bandages. You may also see resurrection gates and ankhs, both of which will resurrect you.
There is no stat or skill penalty for death, however the items you are carrying will remain with your body, which is lying in a heap on the ground. After returning to life, hurry back to your corpse, and double click it to retrieve your things.
Your most valuable items don't have to be lost when you die. When you have something you know you want to keep, and are willing to pay to keep it, you can insure the item. Single-click on yourself to bring up your context menu, select "toggle item insurance", and then target the items that you want to insure. Insurance costs gold, with the amount varying depending on the item. The next time you die, any insured items will not fall into your corpse, but rather will stay with you when you resurrect. If you want your insured items to remain safe, you will have to purchase insurance for them again. For safety reasons, most people select the "auto renew inventory insurance" option, so their items always stay insured. Insured items are also protected against thieves. Make sure you keep some gold in the bank, because if you don't have gold in the bank, you can't afford insurance, and you'll lose your things.
Some items are labeled as Blessed. There is no need to insure these items, as they will stay in your backpack when you die. Some examples of items that are normally blessed: spellbooks, runebooks, ethereal mounts, and shrunken pets. If you have a piece of clothing that you value, you may be able to find a clothing bless deed that you can use on it, though it will not be cheap.
Some items are labeled Cursed. These items cannot be insured. Very few items are cursed - the most significant ones are scrolls of power. When you get a valuable cursed item, you'll want to put it in your bank box immediately for safe keeping.
